(MENAFN- KNN India) Core sector growth hits 4 per cent in December 2017: Govt Data
New Delhi, Feb 1 (KNN) The eight core industries making up 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial production (IIP) stood at 129.1 per cent in December this year.
This figure is up by 4 per cent as compared to the index of December 2016, data from Commerce and Industry Ministry revealed.
While the year on year analysis shows a growth of 4 per cent, the core sector growth rate in comparison to the previous months shows a slowdown. In November, the figure stood at 6.8 per cent which was revised to 7.4 per cent.
The eight core industries comprises of coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity.
Dissecting the data further, the Minister informed that natural gas production increased by 1.0 per cent in December, 2017 over December, 2016, and its cumulative index increased by 4.0 per cent during April to December, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Petroleum Refinery production increased by 6.6 per cent in December, 2017 over the same period last year, while its cumulative index increased by 3.9 per cent during April to December, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year.
Whereas sectors including coal and crude oil registered a decline by over 0.1 per cent and 2.1 per cent respectively during April to December, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of the previous year.
Steel production increased by 2.6 per cent in December, 2017 over December last year, while its cumulative index increased by 6.7 per cent during April to December, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year, the data further said.
Cement production too increased by 19.6 per cent in December, 2017 over December, 2016, and its cumulative index increased by 2.7 per cent during April to December, 2017-18 over the corresponding period of previous year, Ministry informed. (With PIB Inputs) (KNN/ DA)
