UN employees in Gaza strike

(MENAFN) Employees of the UN agency that that serves the Palestinians (UNRWA), have had a one-day strike on Monday, which led to closing health centers, schools and food distribution headquarters in Gaza.
According to Secretary-General of the UNRWA employees' union, the purpose of the general strike is to force donor states to pressure the US to annul its decision.
He said his union decided to take the first step of protesting against the Washington's decision to reduce the fund given to UNRWA.
Over half of the two million people in the Gaza Strip rely on support from UNRWA and other humanitarian agencies, as it provides services to 5.9 million Palestinian refugees in the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
