SUWON: Qatar made it to the final of the 18th Asian Men's Championship when they defeated hosts South Korea 32-21 in a keenly contested semi-final in Suwon yesterday.
At the Suwon Gymnasium yesterday, Al Annabi led 14-8 at half time.
Frankis Marzo was the star of the day for the defending champions as he netted eight goals while team-mates Hyowon Eom (6) and Youssef Ali (4) also made valuable contributions.
With yesterday's win, Qatar are just one step away from keeping their Asian crown intact, having already won the title two times in a row. Qatar were the worthy winners of the prestigious championship in 2014 and 2016 editions.
Qatar goalkeeper Danijel Saric won the best player award after his outstanding performance.
Qatar, the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far, will take on neighbouring rivals Bahrain in the final which will take place tomorrow.
Saudi Arabia will clash with yesterday's losers South Korea in search of a consolation win which will decide the third place.
Qatar have already booked their place in next year's IHF Handball World Cup which will take place in Denmark and Germany when they reached the semis, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and South Korea.
