Jordan takes part in IRENA meetings in UAE

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Abu Dhabi, Jan. 14 (Petra) -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, showcased Jordan's record in launching diverse renewable energy projects, in a bid to counter challenges posed by the volatile global energy markets.

His remarks came during the Eighth Session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which kicked off yesterday in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.

" As a founding and effective member of IRENA, Jordan has exerted unwavering endeavors to foster joint action and to reciprocate relevant expertise with member states", the minister told Petra's reporter to Abu Dhabi.

Amman's success story in the field of green energy draws its strength from the legislative framework in place, which enabled the Kingdom to take proactive steps to lure investments to this key sector, Kharabsheh added.

On the sidelines of the deliberations, he held meetings with IRENA members states' representatives, and the UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, on ways to foster cooperation in the renewable energy domain.

Related to this agenda, he later discussed with IRENA Director-General, Adnan Amin, mutual cooperation, and Jordan's request tabled to the agency to enroll Amman into renewable energy roadmap studies, REmap program, in light of Amman's noted progress in this field.

Running from 13 to 14 January, the session discussed tangible steps aimed to bolster a global energy transition.
