France welcomes destruction of Libyan WMD material


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Jan 12 (KUNA) -- France expressed satisfaction at the announcement that Libya had finally destroyed its chemical and other prohibited weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in line with international agreements.

A Foreign Ministry statement said on Friday that Paris welcomed the news about the destruction of WMD stockpiles and also congratulated the role of Germany, which agreed to take on the treatment, processing and destruction of Libyan WMD and associated materials.

Several nations were directly involved in the Libyan operation, including France, Canada, Denmark, the US, Finland, Italy, Malta, Holland and Britain, the French statement said.

Paris also praised the role of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) which played "a remarkable job" in arriving at this result, according to the statement. (end) jk.gb
