Qatar- Local brands to shine at jewellery and watches expo from Feb 21
Doha:A number of Qatari brands are set to steal the spotlight at the much anticipated 15th edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition from February 21 to 26 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC).
Six jewellery brands by Qatar's homegrown designers will feature at this year's show as part of the Young Qatari Designers (YQDs) initiative under the Patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani. The brands include; Nouf Jewellery by Nouf Al Meer, Hairaat by Nada Al Sulaiti, Ghada Al Buainain by Ghada Al Buainain, Ghand Jewellery by Hissa and Jawaher Al Mannai, Leila Issam Fine Jewellery by Leila Issam Abu Issa, and Alghla Jewellery by Shikha Mohammad.
While Al Meer, Al Sulaiti and Al Buainain already joined the show last year; Al Mannai, Abu Issa and Mohammad are first-timers to the exhibition. Their designs will be showcased alongside well-known brands from all over the world.
This talented group of young designers have crafted designs inspired by their country and their heritage and will reveal some of their latest creations at the six-day show.
Al Meer, who blends western fashion and oriental feminism in her designs, have created 'Qatar, which consisted of bracelets and rings bearing the colors of the Qatari flag.
She has collaborated with renowned Qatari artist Ahmed bin Majed to transform his Tamim Al Majd portrait into a limited edition handmade pendant, which will be 'a symbol of power and strength for the Qatari people.
Al Sulaiti draws inspiration for most of her designs from Qatari nature integrating it with International standards. She exudes Qatar's rich culture to the world through unique pieces inspired by amazing Qatari architecture culture and heritage. Inspired by her mother's gifts, Shikha Mohammad finds beauty in traditional jewellery designs. Using gold and pearls, stones and diamonds, she creates pieces specially made for the women of the Qatari society and every woman who loves jewellery.
On its second year, the YQDs initiative is a major highlight of the exhibition which shows that nurturing young creativity is one of the key pillars of DJWE allowing young emerging Qatari talent to shine alongside well-known heritage brands.
'It is important to give these designers platform to showcase and sell their works. Many of the young designers don't have their own showrooms and this exhibition will provide them the opportunity to get in touch with the market and to continue being in the market, said Mazen Abd Rabbo, Vice-President of Auditoire, Middle East, adding the event also gives opportunity for homegrown designers to work with international brands.
DJWE 2018 will feature more than 400 brands and over 40 exhibitors from 10 countries spread on a 29,000sqm exhibition space.
It will have a number of new features and services such as the DJWE Forum, daily industry talks, watches and jewellery workshops, and kids playground.
