Amman, Jan. 8 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, on Monday, briefed the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, on the outcome of a meeting an Arab ad hoc ministerial team held in Amman on Saturday to discuss ways to contain the fallout of the U.S. administration's recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

In a phone call, Safadi told Mogherini that Arab countries, which unanimously rejected the resolution as a violation of international law and has no legal effect, agreed to work with the international community to recognize a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on pre-June 4, 1967 borders.

Safadi and Mogherini agreed on the importance of launching serious and effective efforts to end conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with the relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

The foreign minister underlined the importance of the EU role in creating political prospects that break the deadlock in efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace, expressing appreciation for the bloc's supportive stance to the two-state solution.
