Oman lifts Gulf Cup for second time

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman goalkeeper Faiz al Rusheidi saved UAE's star player Omar Abdul Rahman 'Amoori' fifth penalty kick after Mohsin Jawhar had put Oman on the verge of title after converting his team's fifth spot kick.

Both the teams remained goalless after 90 minutes and extra-time also failed to break the deadlock in a match where the Red Warriors dominated and created more goal-scoring chances.

However, UAE got a golden chance to seal the match in its favour as it won a spot kick in the dying minutes of the match. But Amoori's kick was brilliantly saved by Rusheidi to force extra-time.

Coached by Pim Verbeek of the Netherlands, the win also avenged Oman's 2007 loss to hosts UAE in the final and also the defeat in the opening match of this edition's Gulf Cup.

The second title comes after eight years with Oman's first crown coming in 2009 in Muscat under Frenchman Claude Le Roy.
