Pakistan- Cabinet forms committee to implement FATA reforms
The approval was granted at a meeting of the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in Islamabad on Tuesday. According to a statement issued by the government, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, governor, federal defence minister and Peshawar's corps commander will be included in the committee.
Sources claimed that the Army Chief will also be part of the committee, but the notification did not mention it. The cabinet agreed to continue negotiations with all stakeholders to remove differences on the mode of FATA reforms. The implementation committee has been asked to start its work immediately.
The cabinet decided that the implementation committee will be given full legal status by getting its approval from the Parliament after evolving consensus on FATA reforms. The implementation committee will be bound to implement every decision regarding FATA reforms and every member of the committee will have the status of a federal minister.
