Putin: Russian forces don't need to be used extensively in Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Dec 25 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Russia's forces don't need to be used extensively at the moment in Syria.

Situation in Syria does not need wider power and terrorism will be combated selectively, Russia's news agency "Interfax" quoted Putin as saying during a meeting with the federal council's presidency.

"We will fight against terrorists in Syria in targeted manner now," he said.

He said that Russia has two military bases in Syria, noting that "we will continued to combat terrorism".

On Afghanistan, he referred that the so-called Islamic State moved to Afghanistan, adding that Taliban members have already settled on Afghanistan's border with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Situation in Afghanistan deteriorates, but if the US had not been there, it would have been worse, he stressed.

He, meanwhile, said regulation of foreign-agent media in the US much tougher than in Russia. (end) as.hm
