Qatar- Proposal to set up media faculty at QU awaits nod

Eight graduation projects were discussed yesterday at Department of Mass Communication of Qatar University and 27 graduation research projects will be discussed today and tomorrow.

'The total of graduation projects which will be discussed during three days are 35 and only yesterday eight researches were discussed. Topics of some researches were about the siege, said Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Alkaabi. Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies.

'We are supporting these research projects to graduate distinguished researchers, and also our partners are providing financial support and support in the field of researches, Alkaabi added in a statement yesterday on the sidelines of the discussion of the graduation researches held at Ibn Khaldoon Hall at QU.

The discussion of graduation researches attended by a number of university professors.

In his speech, Alkaabi said that the blockade on Qatar had disclosed the role of media in fabrication news and distorting facts. 'The reason and the beginning of crisis is media and this was through hacking Qatar News Agency. Today, the media which has credibility is asked to adopt the reality and to defend on the ethics of media.

He also added that today and tomorrow will be allocated for graduation researches of women and it includes all fields among them TV, Radio and print media.

'We are making endeavours to create an excellent generation able to create a new addition to the media sector and that is why their graduation researches must be on that level. The students are required to contribute to the development programmes after the graduation specially for Qatar National Vision 2030, he added.

For his part, Dr. Noureddine Miladi, Associated Professor in Media & Communication at Department of Mass Communication, said that the topics of graduation researches include different subjects like the siege, society, culture and family issues.

'Last year we provided comprehensive proposal to establish a faculty for media and we are still waiting the university's decision. Also we hope next year to open Master degree in media to be included all specialisations, Dr. Miladi said. 'To enrich the discussion we invited specialists in the field to attend the discussion and we are doing this usually depending on the specialisations either in TV, Radio or public relations field.

Among the important graduations researches which were discussed yesterday are 'Be Sure Taakad research, and it is about the need of enhancing awareness among Qatari society of how to deal with information and news.

The importance of the topic is because of the rumours which spread from time to time and mislead people, and that is why we launched a campaign to tell people about the importance to be sure about when they receive any news from different media means.

The campaign also advised people to take information only from trusted sources.

'Our campaign and topic of graduation about the practice of sports and we chose it because of the importance of it in the life of students and we are targeting the students of Qatar, said Abdul Aziz Al Mansouri, one of the students who provided graduation research yesterday.

He added: 'We want to promote the concept of sport among Qatar university students and tell that they can combine between the study and sport.
