EU condemns Houthi missile launch against Riyadh

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- The EU condemned Wednesday the launch of a missile by the Houthis against Saudi capital Riyadh as a violation of international law.

"Yesterday another ballistic missile was launched against the Saudi capital Riyadh, which was publicly claimed by the Yemeni Ansar Allah. This constitutes an unacceptable violation of international law and a further dangerous escalation of the conflict which reduces the prospects of a negotiated solution to the war in Yemen," said EU High Representative Federica Mogherini in a statement tonight.

She cautioned that the military escalation of the Yemeni conflict had grave impacts on the humanitarian situation in the country.

The EU foreign policy chief called for taking the wiser path of de-escalation and genuinely engaging in the efforts of the United Nations to resume a negotiated solution as a matter of urgency. (end) nk.ibi
