US strongly condemns reckless Houthi missile attack against Riyadh

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- The US strongly condemned late Tuesday the "reckless" Houthi missile against Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, where Saudi military intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Houthis towards southern Riyadh.

State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement, "we remain deeply disturbed by aggressive Houthi actions supported by Iran's provision of advanced weapons, which threaten regional security and prolong the Yemen conflict." She added that the US "calls on Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to stop arming and enabling the Houthis' violent actions against Yemen's neighbors, including Saudi Arabia.

"A political solution is the only way to advance long-term stability in Yemen and end the suffering of the Yemeni people. We urge all parties to immediately cease hostilities, avoid retaliatory measures and return to political negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations," she stressed.

Meanwhile, Nauert said that the US "remains deeply concerned by the dire humanitarian conditions in Yemen.

"We continue to urge all parties to facilitate the free and unfettered flow of humanitarian aid and commercial goods, including fuel, into and throughout Yemen, including through all of Yemen's ports, including Hudaydah port and Sana'a airport," she remarked. (end) si.hb
