Austrian court refuses to extradite Firtash to Spain

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Higher Regional Court of Vienna (Oberlandesgericht) has refused to extradite Ukrainian oligarch Dmytro Firtash to Spain, Austria's Kronen Zeitung newspaper reported on Tuesday.

"Firtash will not be extradited to Spain. On Tuesday, the Higher Regional Court of Vienna did not satisfy Spain's request for the extradition of Ukrainian oligarch Dmytro Firtash. The decision is final," reads the report.

The newspaper recalls that Spanish justice accuses Firtash of money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. The Vienna court recognized as insufficient the information of the Spanish authorities.

The newspaper notes that such a decision for Firtash is a legal "partial success."

In April 2015, Austria's court refused to extradite the Ukrainian to the United States. He is suspected of bribing the Indian authorities to obtain a license for the development of titanium deposits. Firtash was arrested in Vienna on March 12, 2014 at the request of the FBI.
