(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Ethiopian ambassador Metasebia Tadesse has issued a statement congratulating Qatar's leadership, government and people on the occasion of Qatar National Day 2017.
'On behalf of the government and the people of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and on my own behalf, I extend my earnest congratulations to the government and the people of the State of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day, the envoy said. 'I would like to express my sincere congratulations to His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani as well as the people of Qatar on this special and important day.
'As the theme for this year's National Day celebration rightly states, ‘Promise of Prosperity and Glory', I wish peace, prosperity and development to the government and people of the State of Qatar.
The statement stresses that the relationship between Ethiopia and Qatar 'has continuously been growing and the people-to-people ties are becoming stronger over time.
'The strong and unwavering co-operation and collaboration between the two sisterly countries has clearly and widely been proven by the official state visit exchanges between Ethiopia and the State of Qatar, it noted. 'In April 2017, His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, accompanied by his high-ranking government officials, paid a state visit to Ethiopia and signed 11 agreements and memorandums of understanding, which resulted in the further enhancement of co-operation in the fields of political, economic, social and cultural matters.
The statement also recalled that in November, Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn accompanied by some ministers paid a two-day state visit to Qatar to further strengthen and cement the already established ties between the two countries.
On this occasion, the two leaders expressed their commitment to stronger and comprehensive relations and collaboration.
Mall of Qatar set to offer family entertainment
Mall of Qatar (MoQ) is set to provide shoppers with captivating family entertainment daily between 2pm and 9pm from tomorrow (Dec 14) until the Qatar National Day on December 18. The festive programme starts with a patriotic show organised by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education tomorrow (Dec 14) at 6.30pm with 160 children followed by an event honouring Qatari personalities, in partnership with Qatar Charity, on Dec 17 at 6.30pm. MoQ will also hold a daily live show from Qatar Radio giving away prizes from Al Rayyan Hotel, Xtremeland, Kidzmondo, Scalpers, Napapijri and Fairmont. MoQ, in collaboration with Qatar Tourism Authority, will hold cultural events, ensuring families go home with Qatari sweets and flags, in addition to numerous children's activities and live show 'Fantasia on National Day. NU-Q students set to survey Rohingya refugees in Malaysia
The impact of resettlement and integration among Rohingya refugees in Malaysia will be explored by two Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) student researchers.
Ibtesaam Moosa and Habibah Abbas plan to spend three weeks in Malaysia to interview two groups of Rohingya refugees those who arrived in Malaysia after 2012 and those who were in the country before the conflict involving minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. Everette E Dennis, dean and CEO at NU-Q, commended the students for this exploration and examination of an important international humanitarian crisis that they will study and report on first hand. 'As media and communication professionals, they are using their skills to give voice to the voiceless through research, inquiry, and investigation, he said.
The students' research project is being funded through an undergraduate research grant, which is a competitive programme administered by Northwestern's Office of Undergraduate Research in Evanston. All recipients are required to present their research to the Northwestern community.
'The Rohingya crisis is a timely and global issue that requires attention, said Moosa. 'Most of the focus by international media is on getting refugees out of Myanmar to a ‘safer' country. However, we are interested in exploring what happens to them once they reach these new countries and whether they are they able to live normal lives there?
