UAE- Trump's decision on Jerusalem is 'gift to radicalism': Gargash


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A senior UAE official said on Saturday that US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was a boon to extremists.

"These issues are a gift to radicalism. Radicals and extremists will use that to fan the language of hate," said Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash, speaking at the Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain.

Trump calls for calm The US president has called for calm and moderation in the Middle East, the White House said on Saturday, amid reports of clashes in the region following his decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"The president has called for calm and moderation and we are hoping that the voices of tolerance prevail over purveyors of hate. The president does remain committed to achieving a lasting peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians," White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah told reporters.

Shah defended Trump's decision on Jerusalem, saying "We think that the decision to recognise reality, and recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is the right decision"

Israeli air strike wounds 14 in Gaza Israel aircraft attacked Hamas military facilities in the Gaza Strip on Friday night in response to rocket attacks, the Israeli army said.

It was the second night of rocket fire since Trump's statement on Wednesday.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said that 14 people were wounded, suffering what it described as light to moderate injuries.
