His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Highness the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani sent yesterday cables of congratulations to Tanzanian President John Magufuli on his country's Independence Day. HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani sent a similar cable of congratulations to Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.

Qatar takes part in Arab
peace panel meeting
Qatar participated in the emergency meeting of the Arab Peace Initiative Committee at the level of the foreign ministers of the member-states. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, considered the developments concerning Jerusalem in light of the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Qatar's delegation was led by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.

FM affirms rejection
of US Jerusalem move
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. During the phone call, they discussed bilateral relations, means of enhancing them, developments in the region and the implications of the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The foreign minister affirmed Qatar's rejection of any measures calling for the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, pointing out that such measures undermine international efforts to implement the two-state solution.

Iraq congratulated onend of war on terror
Qatar has congratulated Iraq on the end of its war against terrorist organisations. In a statement yesterday, the Foreign Ministry reiterated Qatar's firm stance against terrorism, rejecting and condemning it in all its forms and manifestations, whatever its causes and motives. It stressed the stand of Qatar alongside Iraq to strengthen its security and stability as well as its reconstruction and achievement of comprehensive development. It called on all parties in brotherly Iraq to engage in constructive dialogue and complete the steps of national reconciliation so as to maintain its unity of the people and land and contribute to the stability of the region.
