Jordan- FM meets Egyptian, Palestinian counterparts

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Cairo, Dec. 9 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman al-Safadi on Saturday updated his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri about Jordan's diplomatic efforts to address the U.S. president's decision to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel and relocate his country's embassy to the holy city.

Al-Safadi and Shukri exchanged views on the best ways to counter the repercussions of the U.S. decision, affirming that the resolution violates international legitimacy resolutions, which stipulate that the status of Jerusalem can only be decided by negotiations between the parties concerned.

The two ministers stressed that Jordan and Egypt consider all unilateral measures aimed at imposing new facts on the ground null and void. They warned that the decision threatens to fuel tension in the region and inflame the feelings of Muslims and Christians in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

In the same context, Safadi and his Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Malki discussed ways to follow up on the U.S. decision, which they said, runs contrary to international legitimacy resolutions.
