Jordan- King, Abbas Meet on Trump's Recognition Decision

AMMAN —AlGhad— His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas today, Thursday, at the Basman Palace in Amman, to discuss further repercussions of Trump's decision to recognise occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

His Majesty reiterated to Abbas Jordan's full support of the Palestinians and their historic and legal right to Jerusalem, as well as the establishment of their independent state.

The King stressed that Trump's recognition is a breach of international law and legitimacy, and that underway effort must consolidate to have an effect.

Meanwhile, the Arab and Muslim worlds must work together to build on the international denunciation of the US decision to stop other states from following suit. Collaboration must be widened with the International Community to do so, the King said.

President Abbas briefed His Majesty on his contacts with a number of leaders on threats facing Jerusalem as well as the repercussions of the US decision on the future of the peace process as well as on the security and stability of the region and the world.

The talks were attended on the Jordanian side by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein, as well as Prince Ghazi bin Mohammad, the King's Chief Adviser for Religious and Cultural Affairs and Personal Envoy, the prime minister, the Royal Court chief, the foreign minister and the director of the King's Office.

On the Palestinian side, the talks were also attended by the secretary general of the PLO, member of the central committee of Fatah and head of Civil Affairs Department, head of the Palestinian Intelligence and the Palestinian ambassador in Amman.
