(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Dec. 5 (Petra) -- Prime Minister, Hani Mulki, Monday, welcomed visiting Senate President of Pakistan, Mian Raza Rabbani, and discussed with him bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Middle East.
Mulki voiced his government's keenness on expanding mutual cooperation in economic, trade and other fields, underscoring the importance of meetings of the joint Jordanian-Pakistani higher committee to explore further cooperation opportunities.
The premier reviewed the comprehensive reforms Jordan had carried out under His Majesty King Abdullah's directives, noting that political reform aimed at boosting democracy and citizens' participation in shaping their country's future.
In this context, Mulki pointed to parliamentary, municipal and decentralization elections the government had conducted in the last year and a half, and which contributed to enhancing Jordanians' participation in the decision-making process.
On regional issues, Mulki said the Palestinian issue is a top priority of Jordan's policy, pointing to HM King Abdullah's stances in defending Arab causes. He also said finding a just settlement to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution figured high on King Abdullah's frequent meetings with members of the US administration and Congress.
He referred to King Abdullah's warning against moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, which would destabilize the Arab and Muslim world, and constitute a breach of international legitimacy resolutions as Jerusalem is occupied territory.
Rabbani, for his part, said that Pakistan appreciated King Abdullah's efforts to promote regional peace and stability, noting that the Kingdom has always been a pillar of stability in the Middle East.
The Pakistani official also said his country sees that any decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem is considered a violation of international legitimacy resolutions and would have repercussions on the Arab and Muslim nation.
He said he hoped that his meetings with Jordanian officials would bolster Jordanian-Pakistani ties.
