Palestinian authority warns of transferring US embassy to Jerusalem
Palestinian presidency spokesman, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, said that the American recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, or the transfer of the embassy to it, carries the same degree of danger to the future of the peace process, stressing that the American orientation push the region to the square of instability.
Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) member, Hanan Ashrawi, condemned the Giro d'Italia race for presenting Jerusalem as a unified city under Israeli sovereignty and deleting it for any reference to West Jerusalem and the use of the entire city of Jerusalem instead.
Ashrawi said in a statement that this race scheduled to be held in the month of May next, is an attempt to legitimize the annexation of Jerusalem to Israel and distort the originality of the city, its Palestinian character and its legal statue, and this description of the holy city is a direct violation of international law, international conventions and resolutions, and the international community does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem, and all Israeli measures to annex the city to the occupying state are considered illegal.
She confirmed that the continued organization of such an event means collusion with the Israeli military occupation and its horrific violations of the law and international conventions, calling on the organizers of the race to stop appeasing Israel at the expense of the rights of the Palestinian people, and the right to freedom and independence, at the expense of international law and global humanitarian ethics.
