UAE- 10 people stranded in RAK valleys rescued by police

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ras Al Khaimah Police have rescued 10 Arab and Asian residents lost and stranded in the mountainous valleys of the northern emirate.

Having been alerted around 5.30pm, the central operations room of the RAK Police dispatched traffic police, ambulances, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations department, RAK Police, said the rescue teams of the RAK police air wing section searched the entire area.

"The ten residents were overexhausted and lost their way back home."

The search operations continued until late night when the 10 residents were found 4km deep in one of the mountainous valleys of the emirate, he added.

"The rescue teams and paramedics provided the residents stuck in the valley with first aids and shifted them to the hospital for treatment and medical care."

Brig Humaidi urged the mountain climbers, tourists and valley-goers to be extra cautious when going on such trips and strictly follow the directives for their own safety.

"The rescue teams of the RAK police are geared up to attend to any such emergency cases round-the-clock, but the public is also urged to take all precautionary measures."

"What makes our job more difficult, when looking for a missing person here, is the insufficient or unclear information as well as the rough, rocky, and sloppy mountainous areas which are hard to get to, apart from the unstable weather conditions, mainly the atmospheric pressures, funnel clouds, and heavy showers."
