Students gain leadership skills at Qatar University conference

Qatar University (QU) Student Affairs Sector organises the third edition of the two-day student leadership conference 'Taqadam: Tanmeea, Enjaz, Qiaadah, which started yesterday, under the patronage of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums.‬

‬‬‬‬‫The conference, first-of-its-kind in Qatar, is organised by university students as part of their leadership development training at QU, and in partnership with universities across Qatar, Kuwait and Oman. It aimed to discuss, share knowledge and learn strategies on driving change, developing leadership skills, and solving problems in a local, regional and global context.

‫The event brought together over 350 students from colleges and universities across Qatar and the GCC to network and exchange their knowledge and experiences on leadership development in the region.‬‬‬‬ ‬

‫The opening ceremony was attended by QU President, Dr Hassan Al Derham; QU VP for Students Affairs, Dr Khalid Al Khanji; and officials from QU and the partnering institutions, as well as representatives of the local media.‬‬‬‬.

‫The day one featured a training workshop on 'How to become a social leader?; Presented by Dr. Jassim Al Moutaweh and the success story of Reem Al Sowaidi. It also included five workshops presented by Rawdha Al Kubaisi, Abdulaziz Al Khalidi, and Dr Abdullah Al Filkawi, as well as presentations from the American University of the Middle East (AUM) and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).‬‬‬).‬

‫Discussions focused on leadership skills for Qatari women, AUM achievements, SQU Student Advisory Council, steps towards achievement, and seven leadership skills.‬‬‬‬

‫The Day Two featured a training workshop presented by Mohammed Sari Al Mutairi and the success story of Sabah Al Kuwari. It also included five workshops delivered by Hissa Alnasr, Ahmed Al Shuaibi, Dr Ayoub Al Ayoub, and presenters from Kuwait Public Authority for Applied Education and Training. Discussions focused on innovation in wplanning public relations campaigns, leadership and teamwork, and the role of the leader in promoting innovation.‬‬‬‬

‫ ‬‬‬‬Commenting on the conference, Dr Hassan Al Derham said: 'The student leadership conference 'Taqadam aims to create an interactive and dynamic environment focused on the development of student leadership skills through various training courses in the field of leadership and youth empowerment at the local, national, regional and global levels. Through hosting this forum, Qatar University strives to promote dialog among students from various universities and to provide a platform to discuss the importance of developing student leadership skills.

‫'The student leadership conference 'Taqadam, first-of-its-kind in Qatar, aims to support the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 through shaping a generation of young leaders who will contribute to building their nation, Al Derham added.‬‬‬‬

‫Dr Khalid Al-Khanji said: 'The student leadership conference 'Taqadam brings together students from higher education institutions in Qatar and the region. This event comes in line with Qatar University's continuous commitment to raise student awareness on the importance of gaining leadership skills and the know-how to apply them in real-life situations.‬‬‬‬
