(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS, Nov 25 (KUNA) -- A visiting popular delegation from Kuwait discussed with Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi Saturday ways to establish a Kuwaiti-Tunisian cooperation council to boost their relationship.

The Kuwaiti delegation was privileged to receive a generous invitation by President Essebsi to visit him in Tunisia, and the delegation was honored to accept it, Fahad Al-Mojil, head of the delegation, said in a press statement.

During the meeting, the delegation proposed to President Essebsi establishing a Kuwaiti-Tunisian cooperation council, and asked for his support to back this important step, which would bolster communication between the two countries, Al-Mojil added.

"In return, we received praise and encouragement from the Tunisian President," he noted, adding that such a support is essential for strengthening the brotherly ties between the two countries and people, he added.

"We have discovered during the meeting that President Essebsi's relationship with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah dates back to several decades ago, noted Al-Mojil.

He also added that Tunisia and Kuwait are "twins" in traditions and cultures, and they both promote peace and humanitarian actions.

Al-Mojil expressed hope that the delegation meeting with the Tunisian President contributes to permanence of the two countries' relationship, and foster it in all fields.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti delegation also held talks with Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed, who announced, according to a statement by the Tunisian government, his intention to form a new investment authority aimed to overcome all obstacles facing investors.

Chahed told the Kuwaiti delegation that his country would return to the international investment map due to the privileges and tax incentives provided by the new investment body, in addition to the new legislations that aim to reform the Tunisian economy.

Tunisia's new Finance Act 2018 endorses tax exemptions for Tunisian and foreign investors whose funds are directed inside the country, he noted, stressing the importance of investing in the Tunisian telecom and information technology sectors.

The Kuwaiti delegation expressed desire to intensify investments in Tunisia, especially in tourism, telecom and information technology fields, with the aim to make the North African country the number one destination in Arab and Gulf tourism.

The Kuwaiti popular delegation included a number of businessmen and investors in finance, banking, industrial, commercial, telecom and information technology fields such as Fahad Al-Mojil, Abdulwahab Al-Haroun, Yousef Al-Saqer, Dr. Yousef Al-Awadhi, Dr. Fahad Al-Rashed, Masoud Hayat, and Faisal Al-Ayyar.
