(MENAFN)Egypt's President Abdul Fattah Al Sisi pledged to confront terrorism forcefully after attackers killed hundreds of worshipers in a crowded mosque in restive North Sinai province, which is considered the country's deadliest attack in recent memory.
300 people were killed, including 30 children, while news agencies put the death toll at 235.
The gun and bomb exploded in the Al Rawdah mosque; roughly 40km west of the North Sinai capital of Al Arish, and Al Sisi announced three days of mourning to begin on Saturday.
The president vowed in a televised speech to "respond with brutal force", concluding that "the army and police will avenge our martyrs and return security and stability with force in the coming short period".
