HK hiking and cycling routes to attract overseas visitors

Hong Kong is not only a city for shopping and dining. Many visitors are surprised to discover the stunning natural beauty they can see on a one-day trip, which can guarantee they return to the city.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board will launch a campaign to promote the city's natural beauty in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, which it expects will draw 3,000 nature-lovers to visit over the five months of the campaign, Oriental Daily reported.

Meanwhile, a brand-new guidebook – Your Guide to Hiking & Cycling in Hong Kong – introduces hiking and cycling routes for visitors to enjoy, Ta Kung Pao reported.

The routes, 11 for hiking and two for cycling, highlight the best of Hong Kong's great outdoors with three different focal points.

'Hiking in Heritage' shows urban hiking trails that range from easy, like the Peak to Lung Fu Shan Country Park on Hong Kong Island, which reveals the city's colonial history and nature amid the spectacular urban landscape, to moderate trials like Bride's Pool to Lai Chi Wo in the New Territories, where century-old Hakka villages and waterfalls make you feel lost in time.

'Picture-perfect Vistas' includes three trails that visitors will enjoy for photogenic scenery. One example is Sunset Peak on Lantau Island, where visitors can capture a magic moment with a sea of silvergrass in the background.

'Geological Wonders' recommended trails at Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark in Sai Kung, as well as the MacLehose Trail Sections 1 and 2, where visitors can enjoy landform and beach scenery.

The two cycling routes included in the guide – Sha Tin to Tai Mei Tuk and Nam Sang Wai – are both in the New Territories.

The tourism board engaged talented local photographers including Will Cho to provide visitors with some inside tips on how to capture the magic moments, Apple Daily reported.

The guide will be available at Hong Kong Tourism Board visitor centers or can be from its website.
