Woman reports lover for forging marriage certificate in UAE

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A woman has reported her lover to the police, accusing him of forging a marriage certificate after he allegedly attacked her in a public place.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance heard that the Asian man had asked the woman to live in with him, saying he had a marriage certificate to show they were married.

When she refused, the man reportedly tried to forcibly drag her to his house and also beat her up. It wasn't clear in the court documents whether the pair had lived together earlier.

Official court documents stated that the man met the woman in a public area in Abu Dhabi, when he asked her to go home with him. In public view, the man tried to force the woman to go with him and pulled her by the hand. The woman claimed the man also beat her up.

When she screamed for help, people gathered around them and the man told them she was his wife.

The woman later complained to the police. She told prosecutors that the marriage certificate he had, bore her father's signature and approval of their marriage. But her father had passed away in 2008, before she moved to the UAE in 2009 and met her lover.

Prosecutors charged the Asian man with forging an official document and assaulting the woman.

The man denied the charges, saying he was married to her and that the certificate was issued by competent authorities back home and that it also had signatures of witnesses.

The trial was adjourned until November 29.
