Kuwait- Italy launches 200 mln euro energy strategy '30


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ROME, Nov 10 (KUNA) -- The Italian government on Friday endorsed a 200-billion euro (USD 233 billion) national energy strategy, aimed at relinquish coal, reduce energy consumption cost but boost use in housing and transportation.

Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda, who co-signed the National Energy Strategy 2030 with Minister of Environment Gian Luca Galletti at the government building, said the government wanted to overhaul the energy management.

He said the government allocated 175 billion euros (USD 196 billion) for sustainable development, which included renewal of gas and electricity networks and infrastructure.

Calenda said the government also wanted to invest in renewable energy and increase energy efficiency usage.

The strategy aims at ending use of coal by 2025 in order to cut carbon emissions, thus the government needed necessary infrastructure to achieve this goal, Calenda said.

He said the government also wanted to introduce new generation of cars generated by gas and electricity or hybrid fuel.

Environment Minister Galletti said the national energy strategy aimed at increasing number of cars generated by electricity to five million by 2030.

Italy, he added, would be healthier and has higher competitive endge in the next 15 years. (end) mn.bs
