Oman- Malaysian universities offer affordable education

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), a company owned by the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia, recently showcased internationally recognised programmes offered by ten educational institutions.

The three-day event was held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. Prof Dr Rujhan Mustafa, CEO, EMGS, said, 'We are satisfied with the response we received. Many students visited us and took admissions. We are happy to process the visa and make things simpler for them to begin their journey in Malaysia.'

The universities that took part in the expo offered courses ranging from diploma to PhD in various disciplines ranging from medical, engineering, biomedical and business studies. Prof Dr Mustafa added, 'It is interesting to observe that many Omani students go for Master's and PhD programmes. They choose subjects like medical, business and engineering. As a whole, we have about 177,000 international students from about 100 countries. From Oman we have 800 students pursuing undergraduation and post-graduation programmes. We want to turn Malaysia into an international educational hub.'

Dr Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan, deputy director general, Private Higher Education Institutions, Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, said, 'We think Omani students have an advantage when they come to Malaysia as they could be a part of an educational hub with Islamic value, culture and belief. The students can adapt to the Malaysian environment easily. We have quality programmes that are benchmarked with other international bodies.

'The Omani government is already sending students to Malaysia as the destination of choice. 'We would like to emphasise that we have public and private universities. These universities are ranked favourably. We also maintain good rating criteria. We have a rating tool that rates them from one star to six. We encourage students to make choices using these indicators while selecting universities to pursue their education.'

In the GCC, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar send the maximum number of students to Malaysian universities.
