Theresa May welcomes Williamson as Defence Secretary

(MENAFN) Following Sir Michael Fallon's Resignation, the Defence Secretary occupation was given to Chief Whip Gavin Williamson. Theresa May has wasted no time and instantly started working on the replacement of Mr. Fallon, who signed his resignation papers on Wednesday as a result of misconduct accusations against him.

During Mr. Fallon's declaration of the decision, he stated that his behavior has "fallen short" of the ministerial values. Through Julian Smith, Mr. Williamson's former deputy, he was replaced as chief whip.

Norman Smith, BBC assistant political editor said that it was such a shock for majority of people when Mrs. May declared her decision to replace her chief whip during a complicated time. However, he said she had evaded "unsettling the equilibrium" and making a full restructure in advance of the 22 November Budget.
