(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Allrounder Wasim Ali has been named the skipper of Oman U19 team that will participate in the Asian cricket Council (ACC) seven-nation Western Region 2017 tournament, which will be played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 31-November 7.
Oman Cricket (OC) announced the 14-member squad with Mohammed Mohsin Qureshi as Wasim's deputy. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the ACC U19 Youth Asia Cup, scheduled to be played from November 9-17.
The team has been preparing for the event for the past two months and played friendly games against the top domestic sides as part of the build-up for the Malaysian trip.
Coached by Haider Ali, Oman is placed in Group A along with UAE and Bahrain while Group B comprises Iran Qatar, Kuwait and Maldives.
Ali expressed 'confidence in his boys on winning the event and qualifying for the U19 Youth Asia Cup'.
The teams that have been confirmed for Asia Cup are India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nepal.
Also accompanying the Oman delegation is Vinod Babu, a Level II umpire in Oman, who will be officiating in the event.
Oman's fixtures: November 2: vs Bahrain, Nov 4: vs UAE, Nov 6: semifinals, Nov 7: final.
