Kurds tries to suspend independence drive, in hope to talk with Baghdad


(MENAFN)Kurdish authorities in Iraq declared on Wednesday that it is willing to put an independence drive on hold, in order to resolve the shaky situations in relations with Baghdad via dialogue.

But an Iraqi military spokesman noted that an aggressive_ hurled to wrest back territory after Kurds voted overwhelmingly for independence in a referendum in September _would continue nevertheless.

The Iraqi government was able to take control of the power in the north of the country since launching its campaign last week against the Kurds, who govern an independent region of three Northern provinces.

"The fighting between the two sides will not produce a victory for any, it will take the country to total destruction." The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) stated,
