The costs of dental treatments at private clinics are continuously soaring pushing people to complain and ask authorities concerned to improve monitoring mechanisms to control the prices.
Private dental clinics are 'exploiting the patients's needs and increasing prices especially of cosmetic dental procedures. The price of dental braces for example starts from QR7,000 to QR14,000 depending on the condition of the patient and braces quality; transparent and opaque, said Ali, a patient.
He further said: 'I came to private clinic for braces and they asked me first to open file and then to go through a dental check up which will cost about QR1,000. After that I will have to pay the price of braces which is QR8,000 and I have to pay minimum QR2,000 in the first time, and after that I have to pay QR500 every month.
'Before visiting any dental center, I have to think many times because of high costs as the charges for whitening teeth is between QR1,300 and QR1,500 and removing teeth is QR500, said Aisha another resident.
'In many countries I visited, the costs are much lower compared to Qatar but no one can visit any other country or their home country for these procedures as they require frequent follow up visits, she said adding that now everyone can notice that the number of private dental centres is on the rise while the costs are still the same. There are many ailments which force people to visit these dental centres; some visit to get various dental diseases cured while others pay visits to dentists for smile enhancements or other cosmetic dental procedures.
'Actually the cost of dental treatments are not high. We have to recruit employees including specialists. We also don't ask visitors to pay all the amount in cash advance; they can pay the charges installments and the costs depend on various factors, said a doctor at one of the dental health centers.
He also said that the costs of dental treatment and other cosmetic procedures were still the same after the blockade. 'We are providing 25 percent discount for everyone and we have special discounts for affiliated institutions.
