Qatar and Japan agree to deepen ties

The Qatar-Japan Joint Economic Committee held its 11th meeting yesterday in Tokyo, Japan. The Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, headed the Qatari delegation, while Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, headed the Japanese side.
Yousef Bilal, Qatar's Ambassador to Tokyo, also attended the meeting.
The two sides discussed cooperation in the fields of energy, industry, trade, investment, education and higher education, health, civil aviation, transport, infrastructure and other areas of mutual interest.
The Minister also met with a group of students from the Qatar Leadership Center (QLC) who are attending a training course in Japan as part of their QLC programme. Dr Al Sada advised the group to get maximum benefit from Japan's expertise in business management, leadership development and creativity in providing the appropriate environment for the development of a knowledge-based economy.
He also urged them to transfer Japanese technology and other advanced leadership techniques acquired in their training to national institutions.
Dr Al Sada ended a three-day visit to Japan, where he had participated, with the accompanying delegation, in the 6th LNG Producer-Consumer Conference that was held in Tokyo under the slogan 'Developing LNG Markets in Asia. He had also met with a number of senior officials from Japanese companies that are Qatar's partners in various energy-related projects.
Earlier in the day, Dr Al Sada witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Shimakura NEDO, on the application of an advanced seawater desalination system.
The Minister also met with senior officials from Chubu, Mitsui and Sumitomo companies.
