His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held yesterday evening a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron to congratulate him on his country's candidate Audrey Azoulay's winning the post of Director-General the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), wishing her success and the people of France further progress and prosperity.
HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani also held a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian, congratulating him Azoulay's victory, reaffirming the important role of Unesco in education, culture and science and wishing to work together with France in support of the organisation and its honourable mission. The ministers also reviewed bilateral relations between Qatar and France and means of enhancing them, besides issues of mutual interest.

Honorary doctoratefor prime minister
Seattle Pacific University (SPU) of the United States has awarded HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani an honorary doctorate in law. The prime minister received the certificate in Doha. SPU president Daniel J Martin said the prime minister was awarded the honorary doctorate for 'his leadership of Qatar and 'commitment to education. The prime minister, who enrolled at SPU during his educational career, was entrusted with numerous civil service roles ranging from law enforcement to leading security initiatives. Founded in 1891, SPU aims to equip people with knowledge to engage the culture and change the world.

TV deal ‘advantageous'for FIFA, says beIN
The TV broadcasting rights deal agreed for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups, which is under investigation by Swiss prosecutors, was 'advantageous for FIFA, a beIN spokesman claimed yesterday. 'The financial conditions were the most advantageous for FIFA, the spokesman said, after it was announced on Thursday that beIN Media chief and PSG chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi was under investigation over the sale of the rights.
