Jordan- Senate president briefs US delegation on regional developments


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Oct. 10 (Petra)--Senate President Faisal Al Fayez on Tuesday met with a delegation of US Congressional aides during which he briefed them on the current situation in the region, mainly the Syrian crisis as well as economic challenges facing the Kingdom due to hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.

Al Fayez said that Jordan, despite regional conflicts and crises, has been able to preserve its security and stability but is facing economic hardships, urging the international community to fulfill its commitments to Jordan to enable it to continue its humanitarian role towards the refugees.

The Senate president praised the distinguished ties between Jordan and the United States as well as the US support to the Kingdom.

Commenting on the Palestinian issue, he said a solution to this issue based on the two-state solution that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital will help in putting an end to regional crises and eradicating terrorism and extremism.

Al Fayez voiced hope that the US president will play an effective role in ending regional conflicts and establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
