(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Ministerial Council for National Security announced Monday it has taken new measures against Kurdish government over its independence referendum.

The council, headed by Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi, started today implementing the decisions taken against Kurdistan, said the government in a press release.

The Iraqi government took new measures to restore federal authority's power in the province and in the disputed areas, stressing that these measures are in the interest of the Kurdish citizens not against them, it added.

The council is about to file a lawsuit by Iraqi prosecution to pursue Kurdish officials who violated the decisions of the Federal Court and voted in the referendum.

The council also reviewed special investigation reports of suspected Kurdish officials involved in transferring and depositing oil export funds in their bank accounts.

The Ministerial Council issued a decision that will enable the federal government to monitor communications networks for cell phones and transfer those networks to Baghdad.

The Council reviewed Iraqi government's official request for Iran and Turkey to close all border crossings points with Kurdistan, and to stop all commercial transactions with its government, especially exporting and selling of oil.(end) aah.nhq
