Kuwait- US economy loses 33,000 jobs in Sept. from hurricanes impact


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- The US economy experienced its first monthly job loss in six years in September by losing 33,000 jobs, "likely reflecting the impact of Hurricane Irma and Harvey," according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday.

"Food services and drinking places" experienced a "sharp employment decline," it said.

But, the unemployment rate dropped by 0.2 percent over the last month to 4.2. These 331,000 new jobs brought the total number of unemployed people down to 6.8 million.

Average hourly pay in the US rose only 2.9 percent over the 12 months that ended in September, the report said. (end) ak.gta
