Turkey dismisses 39 judges, prosecutors over FETO links

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Turkey's Council of Judges and Prosecutors has dismissed 39 judges and prosecutors for their alleged links to the Fetullah terrorist Organization (FETO), official media reported Thursday.

The decision was taken after a probe into digital material, including records of encrypted programs that FETO members use and information gleaned from statements and confessions of judges and prosecutors, a source at the council said, according to Anadolu Agency.

With such recent dismissals, the overall number of judges and prosecutors who lost their jobs for alleged FETO links has reached 4,560.

Turkey accused FETO and its leader Fetullah Gulen of orchestrating the failed coup against the Turkish government on July 15, 2016, due which 250 people were killed and nearly 2,200 injured.

FETO is also accused of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the current government through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary. (end) rs.ma
