Qatar- QCAA in deal with European Aviation Safety Agency
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to coordinate on regulatory and aviation safety issues.
The MoU aims at enhancing collaboration to further improve safety and harmonisation of global aviation including sharing of information, knowledge and expertise, regulatory cooperation with a view to improving safety.
This agreement was signed by H E Abdulla Nasser Turki Al Subaey, Chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority and Patrick Ky, EASA Executive Director.
Al Subaey said: 'Qatar has decided to align the Qatar aviation regulatory structure and its safety regulations to the European Regulatory Structure and regulations. Through this Memorandum of Understanding, we will be able to intensify and extend our cooperation in such a way that we work together on the improvement of safety and a further harmonisation of global aviation.
The QCAA Chairman further emphasised that the signature of the MoU constitutes a solid ground for further cooperation with the European Union and a recognition from the EU to the efficiency of Qatar Aviation Safety regulations, which have been subject to major amendments during the past two years.
He noted that other Memorandums of Understanding on Civil Aviation with the European Union are under process pending the completion of legislative procedures.
Patrick Ky, said: Qatar has become a key actor of the global aviation landscape and an important partner for the European aviation industry. We value Qatar's decision to align its aviation regulatory framework with the European system. This cooperation is a step towards a safer global aviation. EASA Executive Director highlighted the importance of the State of Qatar as a highly developed state within the global Civil Aviation industry, noting that such cooperation is crucial as Qatar's National Carrier Qatar Airways operates a very large number of flights to EU countries.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), based in Cologne, is a European Union agency specialized in promoting and achieving the highest common standards of safety in civil aviation, as the centerpiece of the European Union's strategy for aviation safety.
