(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (KUNA) -- The United States offered its sincerest condolences for the passing away of former Iraqi president Jalal Talabani on Tuesday.
"We want to say how deeply saddened we are to learn of the death of Jalal Talabani," State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said.
Speaking to reporters at a press briefing, Nauert honored Talabani as a "true statesman and a leader for all Iraqis.
"We want to send our sincerest condolences to the family of Mr. Talabani, and the people of the Republic of Iraq as they mourn during this time," Nauert said.
Talabani served as leader of Iraq from 2005 until 2014. He reportedly died in Berlin after being hospitalized due to failing health. (end) hy.hb
