Jordan- Cabinet approves amended oil shale agreement with Saudi company

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 24 (Petra) -- The Cabinet on Sunday approved the mandating reasons of the amended oil shale agreement signed by the government and the Saudi Arabian Corporation for Oil Shale (SACOS).

The amendment was in line with the government's strategy to encourage investment in the oil shale industry, and reach understandings with oil shale companies to enable them to overcome financial burdens posed by regional conditions and a slump in oil prices.

During a session held on August 23, the Cabinet agreed to amend the oil shale agreement with the Saudi firm, and instructed the minister of energy and mineral resources to present the amended draft for approval.

During today's session chaired by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, the ministers also endorsed an agreement with the government of China to establish a Chinese cultural center in Jordan and entrusted the culture minister to sign the deal.

The agreement aims to boost cultural relations between Jordan and China.
