Merkel says UN peacekeepers in Ukraine should have full access

(MENAFN) German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that United Nations' peacekeepers who were sent to eastern Ukraine should be granted access to the region held by Moscow-backed separatists.

Russian President Vladimir Putin floated the idea of deploying UN troops to eastern Ukraine in a call with Merkel, suggesting that UN mission could protect observers from the international OSE monitoring mission.

Merkel told the FUNKE newspaper group: "I find President Putin"s proposal to send U.N. troops to protect OSCE observers interesting."
