EU urges US to remain engaged with the Middle East Peace Process


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Sept 8 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative Federica Mogherini welcomed Friday engagement by the United States to find a solution to the Palestine question and urged Washington to remain committed to it. "We welcome very much the engagement and the commitment of the US administration. What we expect from the US is to stay committed to stay engaged, to work with the rest of the international community through the Quartet and other means in particular in relation with our Arab friends to help the parties find a solution," she told a news conference after an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Tallinn, Estonia.

She said the ministers held an "Important discussion on the Middle East Peace Process or lack of peace process between Israelis and Palestinians." Mogherini stressed that the Palestine question "is a security issue for the entire region," and noted that "a very important reference point for the EU the Arab peace initiative which our Arab friends have developed In these recent years." The EU foreign policy chief said she is constantly in dialogue with the Arab side in particular with Jordan, Egypt, the Gulf states and the Arab League to find a solution.

"Our belief is that there is no alternative to the two-state solution. We are convinced it will be simply impossible to agree on any solution other than the two-state solution," she added. Estonia holds the current EU Presidency.(end) nk.rk
