Qatar- Souq Waqif draws tourists in droves

Along with citizens and residents, tourists too enjoyed Eid Al Adha celebrations in Qatar with Souq Waqif becoming the main attraction for guests due to the souq's cultural richness.

Several tourists flocked to Souq Waqif from Hamad International Airport (HIA) on Eid days to enjoy the colourful outdoor activities held at the Souq.

A number of tourists The Peninsula spoke to termed the place 'cultural reflection of Qatar and were very much excited with Eid-related entertainment activities besides showing great interest in shops selling traditional garments, spices, crafts, and souvenirs.

Katie, a tourist from UK at Souq said: 'Souq is a nice cultural place to experience local life. Delectable cuisines are available from a variety of nations. As we came to know there are ongoing Eid activities as well at the Souq, we could not resist ourselves from visiting the market. I have got hena applied on my hands as part of this celebration.

'I arrived here during summer and festival is a bonus. I made new friends here and enjoyed my few hours of stay in Doha. I observed the rich culture of Doha in Souq, these markets are very affordable; I have found many souvenirs to take them back with me, said Albert, a tourist from Spain.

Noora, a mother of three kids, said: 'Compared to last year, there are many new exciting games at Souq this year. We don't have second thoughts as the Souq is a destination where parents and children can enjoy the most during Eid. My sons loved the new Happy Car 5s ride.

Worood Al Saad, Media Coordinator at Souq Waqif, told The Peninsula about ‘Marine Life' theme which has been used in Souq Waqif art gallery this year. 'This year we are conducting two workshops for children and adults which include flower making workshop and paper sculptures workshop. These workshops are free of cost. We have an art gallery where our talented artists will paint live on different themes.
