IAS officer Sunil Arora appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner

The law ministry has appointed former IAS officer Sunil Arora as the new Chief Election Commissioner of India. Sunil Arora is a 1980 batch ex-IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre who earlier served as I&B Secretary and as an advisor to Prasar Bharati.

He would be replacing Achal Kumar Joti as the CEC who was appointed in July 2017.

In addition, Rajiv Mehrishi has been appointed as the next Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He would be replacing Shashi Kant Sharma, who took charge in May 2013 under the UPA government.

Rajiv Mehrishi retired only today as the Union Home Secretary.

In his role as CAG, he would be supported by Ranjan Kumar Ghose who would act as Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General.
