Lebanese top lawmaker lauds Kuwait's continued support

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Lebanon's parliament speaker Nabih Berri lauded Wednesday Kuwait's continued support of his country, particularly on reconstruction efforts.

Kuwait has constantly backed Lebanon in overcoming the destruction in the country's civilian infrastructure caused deliberately by Israel, he said in a speech.

Kuwait also financed and supervised the Litani River project, Berri noted, adding that the completion of its first phase will allow water to reach southern Lebanon by end of 2017.

Lebanon and Kuwait share several common interests, as well as a distinctive historic relationship, he said, pledging to eliminate any rift affecting the two countries' ties.

The Lebanese parliament speaker also pointed out Prime Minister Saad Hariri's keenness on preserving a top relationship with Kuwait on all levels.

Meanwhile, Berri said the recent military victories over terrorist groups attained in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Libya stress the importance of building a better Arab and Muslim understanding that serves the region's interests. (end) wsm.ma
