Jordan- King, Canadian PM hold talks on ties, Mideast issues...2nd, final add


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appreciated Jordan's efforts to bring about security and stability in the Middle East, stressing Canada's keenness to support the Kingdom and enhance cooperation with it in various domains.

The prime minister described his talks with the King as "excellent,", adding that they covered the shared commitment to regional security and stability, human rights and a more prosperous Middle East.

He said that during his Majesty's two -day visit, the two sides discussed trade exchange, development and women's rights, in addition to shared values that drive the two countries to fight global terrorism and support refugees. They underlined in this regard Jordan's "exceptional" efforts in hosting Syrian refugees and vowed assistance to refugees and local host communities.

He noted that Canada cooperates with the World Bank and Jordan's government to increase projects aiming at developing the Kingdom's infrastructure and improving services provided by municipalities to a large number of refugees.

Trudeau announced $5.5 million to support projects that promote the initiative of women empowerment and gender equality in the region.

"Canada is proud to support Jordan in the exemplary work they are doing on behalf of the wider international community. We are especially proud to support projects that serve Syrian refugees and Jordanians, while advancing the empowerment of women and girls," said Trudeau.

"We will continue to work with Jordan to help ensure its continued stability and prosperity," he added.

As for prospects of economic cooperation between Canada and Jordan, the prime minister said there is a good chance to deepen bilateral ties, where representatives of business sector in both countries always search for new investment opportunities, noting that Jordan has the potential to be a dynamic center in the region due to its strategic location and promising opportunities that may attract the attention of Canadian business community.

Talks were attended by the Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, the Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, the Minister of State for Investment Affairs, the Jordanian Ambassador to Canada as well as a number of senior Canadian officials and the Canadian Ambassador to Jordan.

Upon the arrival at the Canadian Parliament, His Majesty was received by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other senior officials.
