Iraqi troops break through IS lines inside Tal Afar
(MENAFN) Iraqi government forces broke through IS's lines inside Tal Afar, reaching the old city center and the neighborhood around the Ottoman-era citadel.
Meanwhile, Iraqi units seized the northern neighborhood of Nida', Taliaa, Uruba, Nasr and Saad, as exposed a statement from the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.
Furthermore, the forces have seized almost three quarters of the city since the operation started in the early hours of Aug.20.
Additionally, Tal Afar, which had a pre-war population of almost 200.000, is the newest objective in the U.S.-backed war in IS, trailing the recapture of Mosul.
