VW engineer detained for 40 months due to diesel issue
(MENAFN) A federal judge in Detroit decided to sentence former engineer James Liang in prison for 40 months on Friday over his role in Volkswagen AG's multiyear plan to purchase diesel cars which release further pollution than US clean air rules allowed.
Moreover, US District Court Judge Sean Cox has further asked the suspect Liang to pay a fine worth USD200,000, 10 times the amount sought by federal prosecutors.
"Volkswagen continues to cooperate with investigations by the Department of Justice into the conduct of individuals. It would not be appropriate to discuss personnel matters," according to the German firm.
